These two islands that are known as major tourist attractions quiet down (a little) at the end of the summer season, and if you are lucky enough to visit them in September, you will still have warm summer days and be able to enjoy the islands.
However, you will find a different vibe than if you visit in July or August.
Santorini
Santorini is perfect in September! Come see the island when the village street that climbs high above the caldera is a little less crowded.
There are so many beautiful sights to take in on the Greek island of Santorini you won’t know where to begin!
The island is known for its colorful volcanic stone backdrop with white houses and winding streets climbing the cliffs, leading you to villages and breathtaking views.
A trip to the island later in the season doesn’t mean you will miss out on anything.

Mykonos
Everyone knows about the island’s reputation for its nightlife scene, beautiful beaches, and whitewashed homes; however, there is much more to do on this Greek treasure than hanging out on the beach all day only to party all night.
When you visit the island later in the season, the true identity of Mykonos seems to shine through more brightly.
In Greek mythology, Mykonos was named after its first ruler Mykonos—a dependent of the Greek god Apollo. It is said to be the scene where the battle between Zeus and the Titans took place. Now, if that isn’t reason enough to visit this island, what is?
As the summer days wind down, the island still offers a ton of fun outdoor activities that will help you experience the authenticity of the island.
Why not relax on a sailboat tour? Or rent a bicycle and enjoy getting to know Mykonos? There is also scuba diving and kayaking the waters around the island.

You can also check out the famous windmills on Mykonos. After all, it is known as “the island of the winds.” The island’s iconic windmills were built mostly by the Venetians in the sixteenth century and there are sixteen located throughout the island.
Agios Ioannis Bay, located not far from Mykonos Town, offers a great escape and a window to the ancient lands of the Greek gods with views of the sacred Delos Island—a daily excursion you must check out while on the island.
Delos is considered a sacred island, devoted to Apollo. It is said that it is “bathed in the unique light” of Zeus’ son, Apollo. No one is allowed to live there, but if you’re staying on Mykonos, you must experience this amazing place, where the statues stand in mute testimony to its glorious past.
