Eurozone Official Says Discussion to Suspend Upcoming Pension Cuts 'Premature'

A senior eurozone official has said that the issue of upcoming pension cuts will go forward as soon as representatives of Greece’s creditors go to Athens in late September for the first post-bailout inspection.
The Greek government has recently stated that talks of suspending upcoming pension cuts would be premature.
Reportedly, the eurozone official agreed with Athens stating, “Any such discussion is premature.”
He then added that he did not know “whether they will be needed when the economic cycle changes,” since Greece and its lenders have an agreement for a primary surplus of 3.5 percent of the gross domestic product.
