The Congolese Migrant Who Became a Professional Basketball Player in Greece (video)

Christ Wamba

Christ Wamba Bouassou Joachim Mossai Fiddle, or just Christ Wamba is an 18-year-old basketball player of Greece’s team ARIS Thessaloniki.
His story is quite extraordinary. Christ left his country Congo three years ago. He went to Turkey and from there he came to Greece’s Lesbos island, where he was stranded in a Refugee Camp.
His main goal was to become a basketball player. And in the end, he achieved it, after accepting the offer of the basketball team of Thessaloniki, ARIS.

Was it difficult? According to the young player, yes, it was. But compared to the harsh living conditions of Congo, the difficulties of a basketball game is nearly nothing for Christ Wamba.
He remembers the time when he was returning to his home after a basketball game and the only thing he had to eat was …water.
ARIS is going to be the first stop in the long journey ahead for Wamba, who started playing basketball since he was a kid and came all the way from Congo to Europe to chase his dream.
In a statement, ARIS Thessaloniki notes that Wamba is a very talented player, both physically and mentally and he’s the proof that the team is willing to invest in the future generation of players.
