Greece's Skyros Island Gaining Global Recognition as Top Tourist Destination

Skyros

Skyros has seen a major increase in its visitors during the last three years at a rate that exceeds 40 percent, compared to 2015.
The years when the Central Aegean’s island was not among the most popular Greek destinations are over. Skyros is gradually becoming globally known for its beauty and this is reflected with the prizes won at international tourist exhibitions, such as ITB in Berlin.

The 39-year-old Mayor of the island, Miltos Chatzigiannakis, told AMNA that newly introduced festivals such as the Skyros Summer Fest, as well as a broader strategy for the creation of an all-year-long destination brand, are the tools which are giving Skyros the chance to increase its popularity among other destinations in Greece and the Mediterranean.
Skyros has also received the distinction of being among the top 100 Sustainable and Green destinations in the world.
