Greece’s National Basketball team qualified to next year’s World Cup that will be held in China after a thrilling win in Tbilisi over Georgia 86-85.
Papanikolaou scored a two-pointer just a second before the final buzzer after a Nick Calathes assist.
Calathes with an amazing performance led the Greek team to victory and Greece now hopes for a repetition of 2006’s triumph when Greece managed to go to the final of the World Cup only to lose to Spain.
The result saw Greece extend its perfect record in the qualifiers to eights wins in as many games, reducing the four remaining games in this second stage to a mere formality – and preparation for the finals next summer.
