The completion of the project will turn “Macedonia” airport into a modern gateway to Thessaloniki and the wider Macedonia region, Fraport CEO Alexander Zinell said, speaking  about the importance of the project for Thessaloniki and the Macedonia region, as well as its symbolism for Greece:
“Today marks the dawn of a new era of development for Greece. There is no better place to start this next day from this historic place. Thessaloniki’s new airport is not just part of the construction project… Our goal is to completely transform it into a modern transport hub for the Southeastern Balkans.”
The Fraport CEO said that the company is to spend € 100 million on the upgrade of “Macedonia” out of the € 415 million of the total budget for the upgrade of the 14 Greek regional airports Fraport owns.
