Greece's Tsipras, Turkey's Erdogan Meet in New York


Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met for about an hour on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.
Attending on the Greek side also are Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias and Digital Policy Minister Nikos Pappas.
Erdogan extended an invitation to Tsipras to visit Istanbul for a working meeting, but no date was set.
They reportedly agreed that there must be a reduction in tensions in the region, that direct and constant contact is needed between the two sides on all levels and that confidence building measures must be re-enacted.
According to the Athens – Macedonian News Agency citing government sources, discussions also included the Cyprus issue, the EU-Turkey agreement on refugee flow and Euro-Turkish relations.
Tsipras is also scheduled to attend a lunch held by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to the heads of delegations at 13:15 (20:15 Athens time).
At 17:00 (00:00 Greek time) he will address the 2018 Concordia Annual Summit, a high-level nonpartisan forum that attracts some of the most important world and business leaders.
