The Hellenic Coastguard announced today that every scheduled morning route from the ports of Piraeus, Lavrio and Rafina to the Aegean islandsĀ is canceled due to strong winds of up to 10 Beaufort.
Authorities call on passengers to contact port officials and travel agents to find out whether their ferry will depart as scheduled later on in the day on Wednesday.
Rio – Antirrio, Volos – Sporades, and Kavala – Thassos island routes are also affected with ferry schedules being postponed or canceled.
The municipalities of Tinos, Andros, and Mykonos islands announced that all schools will remain closed on Wednesday for security reasons due to the heavy rain and very strong winds.
The gale force winds also created problems for the transfer of refugees from Moria hotspot on Lesvos to Piraeus on Tuesday.
In downtown Athens, the strong winds kept the fire department busy, as theyĀ received more than 30 calls for help in Attica due to branches and trees being knocked over from the strong winds that hit the area.
