The Cyclone also passed through Attica, leaving hundreds of properties flooded, causing main roads to close and tearing down trees.
Theologos village in Fthiotida Prefecture suffered great damages due to the heavy rainfall. Many homes and businesses were flooded, with firefighters putting a great effort to pump water for several hours, while several cars were swept by the flood.
Three people missing in Evia
The island of Evia, Greece’s second largest, suffered greatly from “Zorba”. Three persons are reported missing. Specifically, authorities search for an elderly couple and a man whose car was found abandoned in the flood.
To the north of the island, Mantoudi and Procopi villages were flooded. Reportedly a woman with her two children were entrapped by water on Vlachia Beach. Firefighters from Psachna are searching in the spot.
Meanwhile, River Kireas is overflown and is sweeping everything in its path. Vehicles were trapped near Mantoudi, drivers were trapped, while firefighters and community workers have evacuated 50 people and moved them to a safe inn. Traffic between Mantoudi and Prokopi has been cut, while the local fire station has been flooded as well.
In Mantoudi several residents had climbed to rooftops to avoid the raging waters passing by, finally rescued by firefighters.
