Greece would be better off if it was still governed by Bavarians, said Germany’s Minister of the Interior, Building and Community Horst Seehofer on Monday, according to a Politico report.
According to Politico, Seehofer, the Bavarian politician who is also leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU), was giving a speech in Ingolstadt in light of the upcoming elections in Bavaria.
“Bavarians ruled Greece for a time. Maybe it would have been better had it not been temporary,” Seehofer said, in an attempt to be humorous.
Politico reporter Matthew Karnitschnig posted the German politician’s comment on Twitter, which caused an angry reaction in Greek social media.
