The Greek-American celebrity and TV presenter, Maria Menounos, proved once again that she loves Greece and its traditions. With only a month of preparations, Menounos chose to throw her wedding reception in the school yard of Akovo village and the decorations were inspired by the Peloponnese’s nature.
Using more than 1,500 lemons as well as hoops made of lemon trees and jasmine, Memounos’ wedding tables were more of an artwork than a normal wedding table.
Everything was meticulously chosen and the most important element of the reception, food, was inspired by Crete and was made under the supervision and selection of the famous Greek chef Dimitris Skarmoutsos.
Skarmoutsos is a real celebrity in Greece as he was one of the judges of the Greek MasterChef TV show for four years and has hosted many food-related television shows on his own throughout the years.

Truly a magical fairytale. Huge Thanks to @catering.dipnosofistirion @dimitrisskarmoutsos for the most amazing food and for making every dream come true. Everything I had hoped for you took to a level I couldn’t even imagine. Thank you to both Dimitris! #mariaandkevensbigfatgreekwedding
”This was the best food I have ever had” Menounos said and thanked the famous Greek chef for his efforts and talent.
Menounos was particularly impressed by the traditional tiropita (traditional Greek pasty with feta cheese) — and she uploaded many videos on her social media accounts talking about it!
One of the most impressive elements though was the four-levels wedding cake, decorated with different kinds of berries.

Love my dad so much. This was a dream for him. He was born and raised in akovos. Though he’s the proudest American you will find, he is also equally proud of his roots. Growing up we saved all the spare change we found on the nightclub floors we cleaned in Boston to save up and visit Greece. It meant so much to him for us to be connected to our heritage, to know the language and the traditions. Both my parents wanted that. It took years but finally we visited in 1988 when I was 10. I loved it. We spent almost a month In akovos and it always held a special place in my heart. Returning to get married there was my wildest dream come true. All of our friends and family helped make it truly the most special moment of all our lives. My dad gained 20 years of life, my theio niko too. My poor dad got so sick a week before the wedding and we almost lost him. Luckily my friends and family helped him get better all while keeping me in the dark. This is why I feel so blessed. To have my parents at my wedding I know wasn’t easy between dads diabetes and moms cancer. I know many who weren’t as lucky and I will never take that for granted. #mariaandkevensbigfatgreekwedding #akovos #love
Dimitris Skarmoutsos is famous for his talent in combining the amiable and approachable style with the high demands of the fine dining of the Greek cuisine, so it comes as no surprise that everyone was pleased by his creations for Menounos’ wedding.
