Teaching Staff Stop Anarchist Group Opening Office at Greek University

Lecturers formed a human chain to prevent anarchists setting up office in the university

Lecturers at Athens University on Wednesday blocked a group of anarchists belonging to the Rouvikonas group of setting up a meeting place at the Faculty of Philosophy.
The teaching staff formed a human chain in front of the room that would have served as “hang-out” for the group.
In a statement, the University of Athens said that its teaching staff defended “academic freedom, the dignity and unimpeded operation of the University.”
Last week, Rouvikonas, who has assumed responsibility for numerous attacks on ministries, businesses, and foreign embassies in Athens, had invited friends to meetings every Wednesday between 10 am and 1:30 pm at its “hang-out”.
In a Facebook post, the group invited people to “organize with us” and signaled that “it will gradually open new hang-out spots in neighborhoods and universities.”
The Greek government has been accused by opposition politicians of turning a blind eye to the activities of Rouvikonas.
