Greece Denies Turkish Reports of Naval ‘Engagement’ Off Cyprus

Sources from Greece’s National Defense General Staff (GEETHA) deny Turkish media reports about an incident that supposedly involved a Greek warship being interdicted by the Turkish naval forces, near the seismic vessel ”Barbaros Hayreddin Pasa”.
GEETHA said that this never happened and notes that Turkey tries to keep the tensions at a high level, because it cannot accept that the area belongs to Greece.
State-run Anadolu Agency reported Oct. 18 that Turkey’s seismic vessel was harassed by a Greek frigate during its ongoing probe off Cyprus.
An undisclosed number of warships of Turkey’s Naval Forces interdicted the Greek warship, the report added.
This comes only a few hours after Greece’s ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement slamming Turkey Barbaros’ unauthorized seismic research in a section of the Greek continental shelf, between Greece and Cyprus.
