Greek Foreign Ministry: 'Extension of Territorial Waters Our Inalienable Right'

The Greek Foreign Ministry, Athens.

Following statements made by Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglou on Turkish television, the Greek Foreign Ministry, under the instructions of Alexis Tsipras, issued a response asserting Greece’s inalienable right to extend its territorial waters.
Specifically, Greek Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexandros Gennimatas stated that the extension of Greece’s territorial waters is a legal and inalienable right of the country according to international law.
Gennimatas added that this right is not open to doubt or negotiation by third parties, and holds true for the entirety of Greece’s territory. Arbitrary interpretations of international law and threats of violence by Turkey, such as challenges to the country’s legal rights, cannot change this fact or contribute to good neighborly relations, he added.
