Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has urgently summoned the Greek Ambassador to Ankara.
As reported by Turkey’s Anadolu news agency, this summons came after remarks made by outgoing Greek foreign minister Nikos Kotzias regarding an expansion of Greece’s territorial waters in the Ionian Sea to 12 miles, to be followed by another such expansion in the Aegean.
Earlier, Cavusoglu stated on Turkish television that, “Greece often makes similar statements for 12 miles. Populism has the first word there. We are in favor of solving the issues in the Aegean in a peaceful way. Whenever Greece makes provocative statements, we give the appropriate answers and put them in their place. The Greeks should always know that we can solve issues like that. The Greeks know very well that we will not allow such a decision.”
