Evros: Woman, Two Children Missing after Boat Capsizes

A search and rescue operation has been launched by the Hellenic Police, to locate a woman and her two children who went missing after their boat capsized in the Evros River during their attempt to reach Greece. The river runs along the Greek-Turkish border.
The search is centered near the town of Orestiada, where an Iraqi man told local authorities that his wife with his two children, ages 12 and 3, went missing when their boat sank while attempting to cross the river into Greece.
According to the state-run Athens-Macedonia News Agency, the boat carried ten more migrants along with the Iraqi family.
The region of Evros has seen a sharp increase in incidents involving the illegal smuggling of migrants in recent months, with Greece accusing Turkey of negligence in the way it controls its border.
