The new six-day furlough granted to the convicted member of November 17 terrorist group Dimitris Koufontinas was strongly criticized by the U.S. State Department.
In a statement, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said that “we strongly condemn the latest release on furlough of N17 terrorist Dimitris Koufontinas, convicted of multiple murders including U.S. Mission personnel in Greece” and added that “this is a shameful injustice to the victims’ families — terrorists shouldn’t get vacations from prison.”

It is noted that this was the fifth furlough granted to Koufontinas just in 2018. He allegedly left the minimum-security prison near the city of Volos on Sunday and is expected to remain in a specific address in Attica region during his furlough. He is scheduled to return to prison on Friday.
Koufontinas was convicted for perpetrating 11 assassinations, including that of U.S. Air Force Seargeant Ronald Stewart, and William Nordeen, who was the U.S. Embassy’s defense attache in Athens.
