Greek Hospital Patient Given Raki Instead of Contrast Agent

Spot the difference: raki (left) Vs contrast agent

An elderly Greek on the island of Crete ended up in intensive care after one of his relatives that was accompanying him gave him a glass of raki, a strong alcoholic drink, instead of a contrast agent.
According to local paper Patris, the patient went to the Venizelos Hospital for a routine check on his digestive system.
As its customary in Crete, he brought a bottle of raki as a present to the hospital staff.
Apparently, the relative who was with him mistook the raki, which is transparent, with the contrast agent and despite his protests that the liquid was “too strong” and “tasted like raki”, he was forced to drink a “significant amount.”
The poor man ended up in an intensive care unit of the hospital.
Fortunately, he made a speedy recovery.
In a statement, the hospital says that is unaware of the incident, but it has launched an internal inquiry.
