According to data derived from Russia‘s Vestnik ATOP Association of Tour Operators, which works closely with Greeceās Tourism Organization in Moscow, Russian tourists who visited Greece between January and September 2018 preferred visiting Athens and its riviera, as well as the island of Evia, the Cyclades and the Peloponnese.
More specifically, the number of tourists who visited Greece increased by 0.3 per cent, reaching a total of 782,000 people, with Athens’ International airport recording an increase of 47 per cent compared to the arrivals of Russians during the same period in 2017.
The data show that the Russian tourists have begun to change their preferences, since until now their main destinations have been the popular Greek islands, which were connected with the biggest Russian airports via charter flights every summer.
The period between October 2017 and October 2018 was declared as the ”Greece – Russia year of tourism”, with the main motto of the campaign being ”Destination Greece, 365 Days a Year”.
