The canal on the Isthmus of Corinth, the narrow land bridge which connects the Peloponnese peninsula with the rest of the mainland of Greece, was closed to large vessels on Thursday afternoon after the rocks on one side of the canal collapsed, causing a landslide.
The Greek Reporter visited the Corinth Canal, near the city of Corinth, this morning and took exclusive photos of the landslide.

The cause of the landslide remains unclear, though state engineers and experts have warned in the past about possible natural landslides occurring there due to the geological structures in that specific location.

The Port Authority of Corinth informed us that the temporary ban on vessels using the route will continue today, as the canal restoration work and cleaning process have not been completed. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries as a result of the incident.
