Eleni Chatziliadou Crowned World Champion in Karate

On Saturday, Eleni Chatziliadou won the gold medal in the +68 kg category and became Womens Karate world champion after beating Japanese champion Ayumi Uekusa in the World Championship held in Madrid.

This was a rematch for Chatziliadou, since she was beaten by Uekusa in the 2016 tournament. The Karate World Championship is held every two years with athletes from over 100 countries participating.

In June, the Greek champion won the silver medal in the +68 kg category in the Mediterranean Games, held in Tarragona, Spain, where she was defeated in the last seconds of the final by France’s Nancy Garcia with a score of 4-3.
