Disabled 14-Year-Old Girl Captures Greek Hearts at Marathon Race (video)

A wheelchair-bound 14-year old girl from Rethymno in Crete made her dream a reality by taking part in the authentic Marathon race on Sunday.
Marianna Avgoustaki crossed the finishing line at the Panthinaikon Stadium of Athens standing up.
She was raised from her wheelchair by friends who had next to her all 42 kilometers of the race (26 miles), just a few meters before the finishing line.
The crowd at the stadium burst into applause for young Marianna who, despite her exhaustion, smiled in pride over her achievement.
Greek social media users were full of praise for her will and determination to complete the Marathon race.
Over 55,000 runners from 105 countries flooded Attica to compete along the historical 42km route and the 5km and 10km races, along with other races for children and people with special needs.
