Tornado Strikes Crete, Causes Extensive Damage

A strong tornado hit the area of Sitia, in Greece’s Crete, causing widespread damage to local greenhouses and farms, with tens of trees being uprooted.
The extreme weather hit the area at 4 o’clock, local time, on Saturday morning. Sitia’s Goudouras village in Lasithi regional unit was the area that was hit the hardest.

George Tsifetakis, the President of the local farmer’s association, speaking with ekriti portal, said that the locals cannot believe the magnitude of the destruction. ”Instead of being happy for the rain that we were expecting so much, we’re crying for our fortunes that are lost” he said.
