A photograph of Greek champion Elisavet Pesiridou after she fell in a race has been nominated for photo of the year in an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) competition.
The Greek champion was running in the women’s 60m hurdles in the World Athletics Championship in Birmingham, U.K. in the summer of 2018. Pesiridou tripped and fell as she crashed into the last hurdle and lay prostrate for a moment on the track.
Sports photographer John Sibley was there and captured the moment a disappointed Pesiridou was lying on the ground.
Now Sibley’s photograph is among four to vy for best picture of the year in the IAAF competition.
