A new gymnastics competition called the ”World Outdoor Gymnastic Gala” (WOGG), will premiere in Athens in the summer of 2019 at the Panathinaic Stadium. The iconic stadium, the venue of the first modern Olympic Games, will host the event starting on July 7.
Champions and top gymnasts from around the world will perform in the competition. In an interesting twist, the Athens audience will have the opportunity take part in the interactive event and help decide the winners.
This is one of the many innovations introduced by WOGG, which aims to bring the sport closer to the people and increase its popularity and participation.
All the traditional gymnastics disciplines will be represented at the Gala, such as artistic and rhythmic gymnastics and the trampoline. The relatively new discipline of Parkour, which is now part of the Gymnastics Federation, will be also be part of the competition.
The gala was announced at a press conference on Thursday which was attended by Greek Culture and Sports Deputy Minister, George Vassiliadis.
