The town of Trikala, in Thessaly, central Greece, has laid claim to the tallest natural Christmas tree this year in Greece.
The fir tree grew in the Pindos mountains and was transported from there to the north of the town. It stands at an imposing 33 meters (108 feet) in the central square of the city, which overlooks the Lithaios River.

Caroling and a fireworks display for the thousands of onlookers accompanied the lighting of the tree in the central square of Trikala on Saturday evening.
