Thessaloniki Introduces Electric Scooters For Rent

The citizens of Thessaloniki will be the first residents of a Mediterranean city to have the opportunity to travel around the city on rented electric scooters from the Lime company. Commuters and other travelers can easily locate and unlock the scooters with the help of an application on their mobile phones.
The scooters will unlock for 1 euro and there is a small additional charge of 15 cents for each minute of use. The silent, non-polluting scooters will be provided by the “smart mobility” transport company Lime, which already has a presence in 140 cities worldwide.
Lime chose the historic seaside city of Thessaloniki to introduce itself to the countries of the Mediterranean.
The dock-free scooters come equipped with GPS, wifi technology and automatic locking, and can be parked anywhere. Users may locate the scooters which are closest to them via the Lime mobile app and, after reaching their destination, they simply park the scooter in a location where the next user can pick it up.
The scooters can travel at a maximum speed of 25km/hour (15 mph) and they operate on a rechargeable electric battery. According to the company, the scooters are suitable for all ages.
The company will collect all the scooters every night for recharging, and they will be available for use from 8:00 AM (0800 GMT) to 8:00 PM (2100 GMT).
