Tsipras Calls on Turkey to Abide by International Law

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras called on Turkey to abide by international law in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean during a joint summit on Thursday with the leaders of Cyprus and Israel.
Tsipras’ comments followed another day of tension in the Aegean as Turkish fighter jets violated Greek airspace over the island of Kastelorizo.
“We stressed the need for a fair and viable solution to the Cyprus issue for the benefit of the Cypriot people, by abolishing guarantees and the withdrawal of the occupation army,” he said on his official Twitter account.

“We noted the need to respect international law in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean, particularly Cyprus’s right to exercise its sovereign rights in its exclusive economic zone,” he added.
The comments from the Greek prime minister followed the fifth summit held in Israel  between the nations of Greece, Israel and Cyprus.
The aim of the tripartite coalition is to establish the region as an area of peace, prosperity, cooperation and co-growth, Tsipras said. He added that the fact that this meeting has been held for the fifth time proves that “we have established an institution of essential cooperation, of a strategic nature.”
Tsipras also said Greece and Israel are interested in creating a technology park in Thessaloniki to support synergies between Israeli and Greek startups, as well as businesses based in the Balkans.
The three countries discussed developments in Syria, the decision by the United States to withdraw its troops from the country, and the future role of Turkey and Iran in Syria, he stated.
On Wednesday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and his wife Sara hosted a dinner for Greek Prime Minister Tsipras and his partner Peristera “Betty” Baziana as well as Cypriot President Anastasiades and his wife Andri Moustakoudi, at the Prime Minister’s Residence in Jerusalem.
