The Political Council of the opposition centrist Potami party reaffirmed on Thursday that its parliamentary deputies will vote according to their consciences when the Prespa Agreement comes before the Greek parliament for ratification.
According to the state-run AMNA news agency, Potami leader Stavros Theodorakis and M.P. Georgios Mavrotas are inclined to back the agreement. Georgios Amyras and Gregorios Psarianos made it clear they will vote against it, but will not leave Potami’s parliamentary group.
To Potami criticized its former M.P. Spiros Danellis for his decision to support the government in an announcement issued after the three-hour meeting on Thursday. His resolution is contrary to decisions made by the party, and Potami stated that his removal from the party’s parliamentary group was imperative.
In the same announcement, the party noted that “the European identity of our movement is non-negotiable, as is the clash with national isolationism. Our obligation is to express those citizens that defend European unification”, the statement concluded.
To Potami dismissed SYRIZA’s positions in favor of the E.U. as “opportunist” and serving only its own petty political goals.
