On Saturday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel congratulated Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and his counterpart, Zoran Zaev for reaching a resolution in the decades-long name dispute.
After stating that she had all but given up hope that there would ever be a resolution reached between the two countries, Chancellor Merkel went on to congratulate the two premiers, who are set to receive the Ewald Von Kleist award later Saturday evening for their efforts and determination to resolve the name dispute.
“I would like to express my warm congratulations to the two protagonists, [Zoran] Zaev of North Macedonia and [Alexis] Tsipras of Greece for their courage,” Merkel said at a Munich Security Conference.
