Six new ministers and deputy ministers were sworn in at the Presidential mansion on Monday before Prokopios Pavlopoulos, the Greek President of the Republic, and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
The SYRIZA government has reshuffled several positions, filling vacancies at key ministries, including at the helm of Foreign Affairs, following the ANEL party’s withdrawal from the coalition government.
George Katrougalos took over the portfolio of Foreign Affairs minister, which was held briefly by Tsipras following the resignation of Nikos Kotzias, the man who created the Prespa Agreement.
New deputy ministers for Greece include Thanos Moraitis for the ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and Angelos Tolkas for the ministry of Migration Policy.
The two men were prominent members of the center-left “Change of Movement”, or KINAL, party until recently, with both of them having served in ministerial positions in the PASOK government of 2009-2011.
Eleftheria Chatzigeorgiou assumed office in the Interior Ministry and Constantine Barkas took the reins in Greece’s Labour, Social Insurance and Social Solidarity Ministry.
Sia Anagnostopoulou was sworn in as alternate Foreign minister.
The ceremony, which gave ministers the option of being sworn in by either a bishop or by taking a civil oath, was also attended by the families of the new cabinet members and their close associates.
