Greece Eases Travel for FYROM Nationals

Citizens of the newly-renamed country of North Macedonia may, as of Thursday, travel to Greece only with their normal travel documents.
The extra papers used in the past as a passport replacement in order to enter Greek territory are no longer required.
The new regulation comes a week after authorities in Skopje placed stencils on road signs bearing their country’s official new name, marking a first step in the implementation of a landmark deal with Athens.
Under the provisions of the agreement with Athens, North Macedonia’s customs office must mark the country’s new name on road signs at all border crossings, and put up new signage at the Skopje and Ohrid airports.
All plaques on offices must also be replaced within four months, while the Interior Ministry should start issuing new passports by the end of 2019. The central bank in Skopje will begin issuing new banknotes by the beginning of the year 2020.
