The river had already broken its banks due to the heavy rainfall in the region over the last several days, part of the storm called “Oceanis” which hit Crete and the rest of Greece over the weekend.
The fire service has sent twelve people and five vehicles to the area, following a call that they received a few minutes after 1 o’clock in the afternoon, local time.
According to Crete media, the man who is missing is a local farmer.
The fire service of Chania has already managed to save two more people in the area of Embrosnero from the river. Two others were rescued earlier on Monday in Platanias, Chania, because of rocks which fell on the road and blocked their way home.
