Another major distinction for the Greek tourism industry came recently from London, where the country won a ”Wave Award” for being the world’s best cruise destination for 2019 in a ceremony last week.
The Wave Awards are considered ”the Oscars of Cruising” as they recognize and reward excellence and innovation in this important sector of tourism.
In a statement released after the ceremony, Wave Awards officials noted that the finalists attended a prestigious black-tie event and gala dinner at London’s De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms.
The ceremony took place on March 7 in the British capital, where Greece was declared the ”best cruise destination in the world for 2019” in the category ”Port or Country.”
The award was received by Emy Anagnostopoulou, the chief of the Greek National Tourism Organization’s office for the UK and Ireland.
Greece was also declared the second most favorite cruise destination in the category of the people’s vote, after Barbados, which was voted as the world’s favorite.
This latest important accolade coincides with the recent distinction of Greece being named the world’s best tourism destination at the ITB Berlin travel convention last week.
