Greek Post Office Launches New Stamps Celebrating Ancient Greek Figures

A new stamp series celebrating outstanding ancient Greek literary and philosophical figures was issued by the Greek Post Office (ELTA) earlier this month.
The new stamp series was based on designs created by artist Yannis Gourzis and they are all available in packs of one hundred, perforated on one side and cut on the other.
The remainder is printed on fully-perforated sheets of 25 stamps. First-day covers and set albums will also be available at Greek Post Offices, until they are sold out.
Announcing the issuance of the new series on Thursday, ELTA noted that ”in order for a tree to bear fruit, it must first spread its roots, grow a trunk and develop fully; and that usually takes time.”
The Greek Post Office was referring to the development of the disciplines of history, tragedy and philosophy, as well as the concept of democracy, all of which were first brought into the world by ancient Greek thinkers including Herodotus, Euripides, Xenophon, Socrates and Epicurus.
