Magnitude 5.3 Earthquake Rattles Central Greece


A magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale earthquake hit southwest of Itea in Central Greece at 12:46 PM local time (10:46 UTC) on Saturday.
The epicenter was 15 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of the town of Itea in Sterea Ellada region, northwest of the Greek capital Athens.
According to the Institute of Geo-dynamics of Athens, the focal depth was 13.7 kilometers (8.5 miles).
The jolt was felt in many parts of Greece, including Thessaly, the Peloponnese and Attica.
The scientists are now watching the phenomenon closely.
