The 2019 tourist season officially opened on Sunday for the spectacular Greek island of Rhodes with the arrival of its first charter flight of the year.
A Lauda Motion aircraft arrived at Diagoras Airport on the island at 9:05 AM local time on Sunday carrying one hundred passengers – mostly Austrians, Slovaks and Czechs, along with passengers from other European countries.
The tourism directorate of the municipality of Rhodes warmly welcomed the very first visitors of the 2019 season at the airport.
“The season starts with good omens,” Rhodes vice mayor Marisa Hatzilazarou told the state-run AMNA news agency.
”Rhodes is one of the most famous and safe destinations in the world and, as everything shows, 2019 will be a good year for tourism,” she said.
Tourism-related businesses hope that 2019 will be the equal of 2018, or even be an improvement on it, in terms of tourist arrivals and revenues.
The entire year of 2018 was a banner year for tourism, where a significant rise was recorded in tourist arrivals both in Rhodes and in Greece as a whole.
”We expect that the targeted efforts of the Rhodes municipality for the promotion of the island will bear fruit,” Hatzilazarou stated.
