Four people were injured on Wednesday afternoon on the Acropolis, as a lightning strike hit the ancient hill.
According to the first information available, the four people were near the point where tickets are issued for the visitors who wish to go onto the ”Holy Rock” and see the monuments there, including the Parthenon.
The fire brigade, along with the ambulance service, received a phone call from people nearby who informed them about the unfortunate event.
Greek media reports suggest that the lightning was so powerful that it managed to destroy the Acropolis’ lightning rod as well as the ticket center where tickets to the Acropolis are issued.
All of the four people who were injured have been transported to Athens’ Evangelismos hospital.
There is no information about the victims’ conditions at press time.
The entire archaeological site of the Acropolis has now been evacuated by the police.
