Greek Police Continue Crackdown on Illegal Exarchia Squats

Dozens of people were remanded for questioning on Thursday morning as part of a large-scale police operation to clear illegal habitations in the downtown Athens district of Exarchia.
The operation, which was executed by the Attica Security Division with assistance from other departments, is centered on two buildings which have been occupied by suspected anarchist groups for several years.
Sources suggested that one of the buildings actually belongs to the Greek Ministry of Culture and is located on Bouboulinas Street. The second structure is on Zoodochou Pigis.
In a similar police operation last week, dozens of undocumented migrants were arrested for squatting in buildings in the same area.
Exarchia is a run-down district of the Greek capital, well-known for being the home base of Greek anarchists and other leftist groups.
