Athens' Alexander the Great Statue Vandalized With Graffiti

Just a few days after the official unveiling of the statue of Alexander the Great in central Athens, unknown vandals painted slogans on its base on Tuesday night.
In yet another incident of vandalism, from which Athens and Greece’s other big cities have suffered for many years now, unknown individuals wrote two slogans on the base on which the equestrian statue of Alexander stands.
The slogans contain absurdities, calling Alexander a murderer and making fun of the people who consider him a Greek hero.
This new unacceptable event highlights the urgent need that the Greek authorities face in order to put an end to incidents of vandalism of public places in the country.
The city centers of Athens and other large Greek cities are being continuously vandalized with paint, posters and distasteful and unaesthetic graffiti, which ruin not only private buildings and squares, but even ancient temples and monuments.
The absence of punishment for this crime, engendering a culture that has been growing for decades, shows a tolerance for these kind of offenses which has led to a significant downgrading of the image Greece’s large cities present to the world.
