Vandals Go On Rampage in Central Athens Over Convicted N17 Terrorist

A group of supporters of convicted terrorist Dimitris Koudontinas vandalized shops in central Athens on Thursday night in an apparent protest at Greek authorities’ refusal to grant him a new furlough.
Approximately thirty self-styled anarchists wielding clubs smashed windows of two bank branches and eleven shops in central Athens’ Akadimias, Voukourestiou and Valaoritou Streets.

The vandals scattered fliers and shouted slogans in support of the convicted November 17 terrorist, who is on a hunger strike in protest agains prison authorities’ refusal to grant him another leave. The convicted assassin has enjoyed several furloughs from prison in the past.

The leader of the New Democracy Party Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the area on Friday and vowed to arrest and punish the “thugs” once he is in government.
“The scene of destruction speaks for itself. We cannot be held hostage by thirty thugs. The shopkeepers cannot be at the mercy of the bullies. Soon, this will stop,” Mitsotakis declared.

Meanwhile on Friday, a Greek judicial council rejected an appeal for another furlough for Koudontinas for a second time.
Jailed in 2003, the hitman has received six furloughs since late 2017. Last summer, he was transferred from Attica’s high-security Korydallos Prison to an agricultural jail in Volos.
