Vaggelis Chatzis, the world’s only one-armed boxer, returned to the ring on Saturday in Athens’ Paleo Faliro and managed a win against his greatest rival, Bosnian pugilist Mirko Zdralo.
This marks the second time the Greek boxer has triumphed in a match against Zdralo in only a few months, as he beat him at the Belvedere stage arena in Athens in December of 2018.
Speaking with the Greek Reporter, Chatzis said that he didn’t expect this victory. ”I never think like that; I go to the game and I fight there, I never think that I’m going to win.” he stated matter-of-factly.
Chatzis has lived with one arm from the time he was three months of age.

Chatzis had to have his right arm amputated because of a cancerous tumor. Against all possible odds, he grew up to become one of the best professional boxers in Greece, inspiring everyone with his determination and strength.

However, because of a serious injury three years ago, the member of the boxing team of AEK Athens was forced to withdraw from the action.
Asked about the effects of the injury, Chatzis noted that he is gradually returning back to action. ”I am playing, but if I feel that the injury could get worse, I stop”, the Greek boxer noted.
Regarding his future plans, Chatzis said that he wants to participate in more matches, but for the time being, there is nothing on the boxing schedule in the near future.
As for his big dream, to go and play in the US, Chatzis noted: ”This is my dream, my ultimate goal. Of course, if I have more games to play I will do it, but my dream is to go to the US and play a game there.”
