Greek tennis champion Maria Sakkari beat France’s Kristina Mladenovic, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0, to reach the semifinals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome on Friday evening, according to the World Tennis Association website.
After losing the first set, Sakkari made a great comeback in the second set and was even better in the third, not allowing her opponent to even reach a breakpoint in the decider.
The match lasted two hours and one minute. After the victory over Mladenovic, World No.39, Sakkari, moves to 12-3 on clay so far this season.
“I just sat down after I won the second set, I was like, ‘Now it’s your time, now it’s time to do what you have to do. Just went after my shots. Trusted myself. I think I did pretty well,” the Greek No. 1 told the press after the win.
