American Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt met with the newly-elected Orthodox Archbishop of America Elpidophoros in Athens on Monday afternoon.
With a picture of the two of them uploaded to his personal Twitter account, Pyatt informed the public of his first meeting with the new religious leader of the Greek Orthodox in the United States.
Pyatt noted that he was ”honored to congratulate newly-elected Archbishop of America Elpidophoros on his upcoming mission.”
The Ambassador added that he wanted to ”express appreciation for the critical role he will play in deepening US-Greece people-to-people ties.”

Elpidophoros was elected earlier this month by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I presiding over the meetings which decided the successor to Archbishop Demetrios, who had resigned earlier.
