Conservative Candidate Defeats Rena Dourou in Attica Regional Elections


New Democracy Party-backed George Patoulis has a clear lead in the race for Attica’s Governor, according to official results published on Sunday night.
With almost 75 percent of the votes counted, Patoulis and his team received 37.6 percent of the vote and will compete next Sunday against SYRIZA-backed, current regional Governor of Attica Rena Dourou, who came in second, receiving 19.7 percent of the vote.
KINAL-backed, ex-Attica Governor Giannis Sgouros was left out of the second round, receiving only 17.4 percent of the popular vote.
Patoulis, who is currently the mayor for the Athens suburb of Maroussi and Dourou will compete on Sunday, June 2 for Greece’s largest Regional Council, representing approximately four million people.
