Final Results: How Greeks Abroad Voted in the European Elections

Greece’s Ministry of the Interior published the results of Sunday’s European Elections for the Greek citizens who were abroad on the day of the election and who voted for Greek candidates instead of the local ones in the EU country of their residency.
According to these results, the New Democracy Party received 33.9 per cent of the vote, with the Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) came in a distant second with an extremely disappointing 15.3 percent. Such a huge loss is rarely seen for a party currently in power.
SYRIZA was even close to coming in third, as the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) received 14.1 percent of the vote, very close to the 15.3 percent support of the SYRIZA coalition.
In fourth came the social-democrat ”Movement for Change” (KINAL) Party, with 8.6 percent of the vote and the centrist To Potami party ranked fifth, garnering support from 4.95 percent of the Greeks living abroad.
The neo-nazi group Golden Dawn received 3.6 percent of the vote, ahead of the newly-created MeRA25, which received 3.25 percent.
A total of 11,792 individuals actually cast ballots in the election, out of a total of 14,892 Greek citizens living abroad who registered to vote in Greece’s embassies and consulates across the EU.
