The nations of Greece and North Macedonia on Friday exchanged ”notes verbales” declaring that their liaison offices in Athens and Skopje respectively are now official embassies of the countries.
The two countries had never had official embassies, due to the long-lasting name dispute between Athens and Skopje over the term ”Macedonia.”
Since the signing of the Prespa Agreement and the name change of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to North Macedonia, the two countries have been trying to establish full diplomatic, military and political ties.

The opening of the official embassies was made public in statements issued by the foreign ministries of Greece and North Macedonia.
From this time onward, Greece will have an official embassy in the city of Skopje and a consulate in Bitola (“Monastiri”), and North Macedonia will have an embassy in Athens as well as a consulate in Thessaloniki.
