Greece's Former Deputy PM Venizelos Resigns from Center-Left KINAL Party

Evangelos Venizelos and Fofi Gennimata

Former Deputy Prime Minister and prominent minister in successive Greek governments Evangelos Venizelos announced on Saturday that he will not run as candidate with the social-democrat ”Movement for Change” (KINAL) party in the national elections of July 7.
With a post on his Facebook page, Venizelos said that the leader of the party, Fofi Gennimata, has a secret plan that wants to make KINAL party a ”follower” of the leftist SYRIZA party, and its leader Alexis Tsipras.
Venizelos was leader of the PASOK party, the predecessor of KINAL, from 2012 until 2015.
He served as deputy prime minister in the Government of Antonis Samaras, from 2013 until 2015.
He has been elected as an MP since 1993.
Apart from his political career, Venizelos is one of Greece’s most prominent professors of constitutional law.
