The newly-elected Archbishop of America, Elpidophoros, stated after a meeting he had on Friday with Greek Foreign Minister George Katrougalos and Deputy Terens Quick that divisions among the Greek community of America ”must cease.”
Elpidophoros noted that he is ”armed with the good wishes of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the entire Greek nation,” adding that for this reason he feels secure in taking on his new duties.
America’s new Archbishop noted that his top priority will be to unite the Greek expatriate community, following the long tradition of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of reconciling the differences among the Greek people.
Many high-profile public figures both from the US and from Greece are expected to attend the enthronement ceremony of Elpidophoros, which is expected to take place at Holy Trinity Archdiocesan Cathedral in New York on June 22.
