Greek Premier Alexis Tsipras made a rare appearance at the entrance of Maximos Mansion on Thursday in order to respond to the European Commission’s remarks about his government’s decision to implement several relief measures.
Tsipras went in front of journalists to warn the Greek people that ”the dark days of 2012, 2013 and 2014 could come back” and attacked what he called the”Conservative extremist circles of Brussels, which can now question and hinder our political choice to reduce the burden of the crisis to all those who suffered the most.”
The Prime Minister was referring to yesterday’s remarks by the European Commission, which warned that Tsipras’ handouts could put Greece’s fiscal stability in danger.
”Today, they dared putting back on the table the issue of firing public servants,” Tsipras said, adding that ”this has never happened since 2014, when Kyriakos Mitsotakis was the responsible minister for such an issue.”
The Greek Premier concluded his statement by saying that ”ahead of the crucial national polls of July 7, we need to compare the parties’ manifestos and be fully aware of what everyone proposes,” making a clear innuendo that New Democracy’s policies could bring the days of austerity back to Greece.
”Due to the sacrifices of the Greek people, the country is now out of the memoranda; but this doesn’t mean that a comeback [to the days of austerity] is not possible,” Tsipras concluded.
